Porsche cars are about the driving experience; the passion for motorsports is evident throughout the entire company, some errant reputation of the cars being the accessory of choice for posers and hairy chested singles bar cruisers notwithstanding.
The WanderingPurist recently spent some days in the US spiritual epicenter for Porsche enthusiasts in the US - Barber Motorsport Park, home of the Porsche Sport Driving School (PSDS)
Besides some very very enlightening and eye opening time in the driver's seat on skidpads, autocross courses, and hot laps in a very very exciting new gen super car, there was lots of banter and convivial chatter about all things motorsports, especially if Porsche was involved.
I'll be transcribing and sharing some of the WanderingPurist's experiences and thoughts in the coming days, but one particular topic stood out - Carrera GT.
Official Porsche presentations presented the Carrera GT as the "production" successor to the homologation special GT1, incorporating much of the technology introduced in the GT1.
Talk among the owners and enthusiasts presented wide ranging opinions, from "one of the greatest cars ever made" to "I didn't like it and sold it with less than 600 miles on it; I took a huge hit!"
I myself am not a big fan, though I don't have too much seat time in it.
Contrast this with nearly universal praise, even lust, for the GT3RS 4.0 run out model, both within the company and among their fans and owners...
Do you have any thoughts or even experience to share on the Carrera GT?
Cheers,
TM
