Richmont own ALS, IWC, JLC, Vacheron, Montblanc, Cartier etc. etc. and they seem to differentiate OK so I am not sure that is the case.
Blancpain don't produce as many watches as other brands so maybe they will not be quite as well known because of that, and I think you are correct about the product development phase. Technical development and innovation has been a deliberate strategy under Marc Hayek and I think it's paying off.
My Quantieme has 70 hrs power reserve from twin winding barrels, under lugs correctors that can be used at any time of the day, a silicon free sprung balance and a wonderful finish all put together by a single watch maker. My Bathyscaphe has three barrels, 120 hours powers reserve silicon balance, etc.... I just love them for their technical brilliance !
