Breguet

Product placement…

Dear Cepheus,

Thanks for pointing this out and for the translation; I really appreciate it. There is also a full translation of Jean-Henri Fabre’s work available on the Internet for those who want to search for it.

Very interesting and poetic for such a scientific work. It is fascinating to find a Breguet mentioned in a scientific treatise on the instincts and habits of insects. Even more interesting that Fabre would mention Breguet specifically, rather than just saying a ”mechanical watch” to make his point.

Breguet watches seem to appear fairly frequently in literature. I wonder if this is more common than other historical brands and shows the important position that Breguet’s timepieces had in the hearts and minds of the 19th and early 20th Century writers.

Or, cynically, perhaps this is just the efforts of an active marketing department and product placement, even in 1886!

Kind regards

Andrew
