Cartier is diverse
The Collection Privee Cartier Paris (CPCP) range is the equal of most, if not all, of the good stuff coming out of Switzerland. Most use very fine Piguet or Lemania movements finished to a high degree, with nicely done cases and dials.
On the other hand, the Les Must de Cartier watches, the Tank, Santos, Panthere etc, the sort found in airport duty free, those are ETA-based, run of the mill types. Omega, Rolex, Breitling and others in that price range exhibit similar quality. Of couse the Cartier name has a bit more cachet - jeweller to kings and king of jewellers - but remember that Cartier today makes cigarettes, lights and other (tacky) trinkets and it is a billion dollar brand.
