Some people are aghast when I mention gem-setting as one of the decorative arts applied to watches like enamelling and engraving.
Their prejudice is that watch cases should be made of base metal (steel) and appreciated alone in a locked room with high powered magnification loupes.
I think we can celebrate the decorative arts coupled with mechanical prowess, worn by artistic people in glamourous settings, in an erudite fashion.
After all, these are beautiful objects made by man for the enjoyment of all.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- so an artistic director may, conversely, photograph such objects on a pile of rubbish for effect.
Personally, I prefer my watch images in more salubrious surroundings!
