I was surprised by the detail of the reasoning behind each design decision

Indeed, each decision was after prolonged thought.
For example, the "Swiss" lever mechanism was used because Berthoud was friends with Thomas Mudge, the Englishman who invented the lever escapement and also used it in his movements.
Although, Berthoud played with detent escapements too, the FB 1 watch has a lever mechanism because it proved most stabile and robust in testing. It also provides best adjustment for timing precision in this configuration for C.O.S.C. testing.

While I like the odd tribute model as much as the next man, I find it imperative that a brand continues creating a fresh legacy and KFSs credo certainly goes in that direction
