Chopard

The vintage St Moritz and Karl-Friedrich

sporty luxury watch was most interesting as I've never seen one before. Even in those days, Chopard was keen to experiment and cover the "sporty wealthy" market.

Prior to the yuppie period, wealthy people were old and fat smile  (just kidding) but seriously, Chopard wanted to break the public notion that they could not make a water-resistant watch for cold temperatures. people forget that even in 1979 (prototype testing), seals were not guaranteed in cold conditions....to 100m.

Other top firms also made steel luxury watches e.g. AP Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. Chopard used a Frederic Piguet 1150 automatic movement.

The yuppies changed social norms and turned up in tuxedo with Nike trainers so Karl-Friedrich Scheufele's 1st Big Idea as a new executive at Chopard really changed things......
