1957 Omega Seamaster with 5 digit serial number?
Hello All...I need some help. I am looking to purchase what is described as a 1957 Omega Seamaster with a 501 caliber, 20 jewel movement but with a very odd 5 digit serial number...#87810. It has a case number 2846-2848 SC5, gold capped, with black dial (Edinburgh retailer name below Omega). xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx and has stated that movement might be a prototype as the movement is all original, with no replaced parts and he has never seen a 5 digit serial number on an Omega movement before. I have sent Omega Vintage Deartment an e-mail inquiry, but no response yet.
Question.... does it seem likely that it is legitimate. Has anyone else come accross a 5 digit serial number on a caliber 501 movement.
Many Thanks
Dave M

For me everything looks OK except the winding crown which looks like a later replacement. The "issue" with the movement serial# however is very odd and this "problem" can only be solved by the Omega museum database. Only they will know from their books......
