7031 Homeplate? A watch for The Clash

I go through a similar process with most of my watches. I find myself falling in love and buying. Then for a long period I wear nothing but the new love. Then after this brief flirt with the watch, I will not wear it for a very long time. Then i start to think about whether I want to sell it or not. I put the watch back on my wrist, and then a switch gets flipped in my head..... and as The Clash would say, the decision is about "Should I stay or should I go?" This happened recently with a particular Panerai...PAM 36. I even got as far as advertising it and received many offers. But, when push came to shove, I just couldn't let it go. It has stood the test of fire and passed. Many in my collection have gone through the same process. Some go straight into "keep forever" zone....but those are the exceptions and not the rule.

This Tudor is one that is facing the question now. There is so much about it that is fun. It is like a Daytona but with a sense of humour. So much about it that is special. I think it is so much more sportier than its Rolex cousin. It is not the younger brother of the Daytona. Its like an interbred cousin.....truly quirky...not quite sure what to make of it...and bits  of it that just don't really belong.  And yes, there is just something about it that makes me unsure of its future. As quirky goes, the MC really takes the biscuit. But having said all that, one keeps coming back to look at it again. I think it is its sportiness that is captured so well, and in a way that the Daytona is not.....or is that just me that thinks that?

I have seen a number of great articles here about various Monte Carlos...7149s, 7159s and 7169s. Not many about the original Homeplate 7031. I will post some pictures about my 7031. Would love to hear from other 7031 owners about their experience with the watch...whether it gradually grew on them. Or whether, when push comes to shove, MC owners tend to eventually let their Homeplates drift off to other owners? Is there real love for this watch or is it just initial infatuation?

What is in my mind is to switch the 7031 for a Red Hand GMT 1675. any thoughts on that one?
