I go through a similar process with most of my watches. I find myself falling in love and buying. Then for a long period I wear nothing but the new love. Then after this brief flirt with the watch, I will not wear it for a very long time. Then i start to think about whether I want to sell it or not. I put the watch back on my wrist, and then a switch gets flipped in my head..... and as The Clash would say, the decision is about "Should I stay or should I go?" This happened recently with a particular Panerai...PAM 36. I even got as far as advertising it and received many offers. But, when push came to shove, I just couldn't let it go. It has stood the test of fire and passed. Many in my collection have gone through the same process. Some go straight into "keep forever" zone....but those are the exceptions and not the rule. 

So, I would just tell you what I would do.

I am hunting one of those MCs, and to be sure, I have a more affordable way than yours.

I take pics, and see them maybe 10 times a day.

If at the end of one month, I am still super excited with it, I hunt it.

Back to your 7031, this is a super watch, which I prefer with the SS bezel, rather than with the black plastic one.

It gives it more character, I find. Of course, some Purists will tell you that the plastic bezel is the one ot go, but I much prefer the plastic one, it is just a matter of taste, of cup of tea.

My friend, if you start having sme doubts, it is time for you to let it go... It has already gone away, in your heart.

I still think that you should give it a second chance. You described it very well, as well as the differences between the Vintage Dayto and the MC.

When ( if ) you ( still ) own the PN, you have to keep this one. What a wonderful pair. you are eligibie to the honorific King Of Cool Title, with such a Duo.

Bill has another very serious competitor, but I still prefer the 7031... But the correct reference which came with the ss bezel.

So, to make it short: Keep it!

...and yes, I wish I could find a less expensive way of discovering if i truly love a watch!! Pictures? Really hard to tell from a picture. I got truly excited about the vintage Heuer.....saw so many pictures. yet, when i tried it on I knew immediately it was not for me. Often it can take a year of playing with a watch to determine if i truly love it...PAM 36 is such a case in point. I loved the pictures...loved it when it went on my wrist...and then it spent 6 months in the wilderness....now firmly back in with the keep forever watches. I do wish I could find a cheaper way of figuring this out.

...that is exactly correct....if a watch passes this second test, a new much greater respect develops....and then one ends up with a watch that is really loved...... that is exactly correct. I just havent found a good way of getting to that point cheaply!!

...it's really a great watch & it's a special feeling to have this kind of connection with friends around the world !
