Food & Wine

A nice little Spaniard!

Belated post

G'day friends, something a little different from me today. Here we have a Spanish wine from Ribera del Duero! My girlfriend and I recently bought a Spanish cook book and decided that the wine cabinet needed some Spanish varieties to go with the food we'll make. So we started with two Tempranillos, one from Spain and one from Australia for comparison. Here is Quinta Milu's 'Milu' Tempranillo 2014. Not an expensive wine by any means but an interesting one and I think a good find. I got 4 bottles from my favourite wine shop! Quinta Milu describes his winery as a 'micro winery' and farms organically and only makes very small numbers of bottles. How small I do not yet know. According to Larousse wine, wine from this region is typically oaked, and in some cases exceptionally so! Contrary to this, 'Milu' is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then spends 6 months in used oak barrels.

I quite enjoyed with wine, after an hour in the decanter it was a pleasure to drink. Lots of red fruit on the nose, very fresh. On the palate the same, slightly underripe red cherries come to mind with earthy notes and dry tannins. I think another year in the bottle will do it good however I doubt that this is a wine of longevity. I could be wrong! I'm a novice.

It's always nice to find something different! Also, note the funny cork! I love a good cork!
