Anyone else with double signed watches around ?
Hi all,
Here's one of my pieces I wear the most often, it's a ref. 3800a retailed by Beyer. Having owned or extensively worn just about every Nautilus reference (a few exceptions), I can officially retire from the family and say the 3800 is my favourite to wear. The size is incredible for my wrist and the finesse of the case is beautiful. I've always struggled with modern Nautilus pieces due to the new clasp. I'm not a fan at all of the butterfly clasp in general, and the new one on the 5740 is not to my liking either. The older clasps bracelet and buckle are in my opinion much nicer and showcase a les industrialised side to the Nautilus. The watch I've pictured below is my daily wear, only take it off to sleep and when water gets in the way. For those of you that know the reference well, you'll realise the polishing of the bracelet and case isn't "original" - indeed the watch has been polished but it's been done in a very skilful way, the bevel on the side of the bracelet and case elevate the watch to a sportier look in my opinion and I'm very happy with the way it looks (I didn't get this done, I found the watch like this). This paired with the beautiful patina of the dial turning to a green makes it for a fantastic sight to look down at every time I check the time.
I also feel that the retailer signature makes for a much more balanced dial, something I don't find necessary on 5402 thanks to the AP logo at 6 - but on the Nautilus I find it to be a great addition to the watch.

I think the patina here comes from humidity which we can also see from close up has left its mark on the hands. Luckily, the tritium from the indices and hands isn't cracked or damaged but wonderfully aged to a nice cream colour. All the best, M.

the movement. I bought mine in 1987 and bought my wife their ladies version (quartz). The split-stem movement in the 3800's was one of the few Patek movements that didn't wear the Geneva Seal I'm hoping that your stem doesn't come out as often as mine did...

Luckily I've never had that problem on any of my 3800s - however, getting the crown out is always tough and a bit of a stressful moment haha. As I wear it everyday though I rarely need to pull the crown out. M.

My issues were on those 30 day months and I had to advance the date. More important that you wear in good health and stay safe. Miki

As Luca pointed out, the indices were hand applied so it is quite common for them not to be perfectly aligned. However they are both identical in shape and size. From face on the slight misalignment isn't noticeable - being the kind of guy that will turn ...

The black date is indeed something that I hadn't mentioned - I'll talk more about it in a future post of a more special watch M.

The black date wheels were used on early 3800s both on the steel, yellow gold, only one rose black date that I know of - haven't seen a white gold or platinum with black date but I'm sure they're out there. M.

Beautiful ! Is this your watch ? I remember seeing it up for sale by European Watch Co. a while back but there's probably 2-3 out there. The 5800 is already a rare bird but with the Tiffany stamp even more so ! Congrats M.
