Watch Bug - Suggestions for new Patek
Hello All -
I'm from NY and just got back from an amazing vacation that included some Swiss Skiing, Geneva and Paris. I got to spend some time at the boutiques as well as the Patek Philippe Museum. I have to be honest, there were times when I got goosebumps in that museum which reignited my watch passion/hobby. This leads to wanting to add another Patek to the collection.
I currently have the following watches in my collection:
- Patek 5212A (Calatrava Weekly Calendar)
- AP 15500 (41mm blue dial stainless steel royal oak)
- AP 26331 (41mm blue dial stainless steel royal oak chronograph)
- Rolex Stainless Steel Jubilee GMT Pepsi
- Rolex Starbucks Submariner
- Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional
- Omega Speedmaster Snoopy III
- Panerai 1086 (simple 2 hand 44mm Luminor)
What is obvious to me is the redundancy in my collection. Two ceramic dial Rolex's, Two speedmasters and Two blue dial royal oaks. I think the Rolex's are different enough to keep both as are the two Omega Speedmassters, but I am considering parting ways with the 15500 Royal Oak. I rarely wear my Royal Oaks as they are somewhat of a target for the bad guys, so it seems silly to have two that are very similar that I barely wear. If your wondering why I have both, its because the boutique called and it would have been dumb for me to turn either of them down. The chronograph as more sentimental value as that was my first really big purchase.
So with the 15500 potentially gone, that frees up ~$40k which I would like to put towards a comparably priced watch. I don't mind adding some money to the trade but I would also be okay taking some money back (trading down).
The Patek's I am considering in no particular order include:
- Patek Calatrava - 6119G - Classy and should stand the test of time
- Patek Calatrava - 6007G (Red or Blue) - I know this one doesn't have the hardcore Patek DNA which worries me but it looks pretty great on the wrist
- Patek Chronograph - 5170G - Just always liked the look but do I need another chronograph...
- Patek Worldtime 5130P - My favorite world time
- Patek AC 5205G - Like it but do I already have a calendar Patek
- Patek AC Chrono 5960R - like the rose gold and black dial but that's a significant trade up and another chromo... and another calendar...
- Also love all Aquanaut and Nautilus models but likely wouldn't be comfortable wearing them in NYC. Really like the 5726A on Leather Strap makes it less noticeable but the price is way higher than my current trade-in value.
Would love to hear the communities thoughts - Also feel free to add to the list and confuse me more. Just know I tend to stay away from yellow/rose gold as don't like the attention although I think they are beautiful.

The Chronograph or the Worldtime
would be my choice. I think the 5170G (white or black dial) would fit into your collection nicely, in particular. Lovely collection btw!

I am leaning towards the 5130P and 6119G myself, but that changes on a day-to-day basis. While I can pick up the 6119G at a discount if I go used/grey-market, I wonder if it's worth the extra money to build on a patek relations which I don't currently hav...

I’m a sucker for a good chrono, so the 5170 would fit nicely and agree that if you can source a leaf hands version even better small detail. However, also have the 6119R and either that or the 6119G is quintessential Patek dress that can also go casual so...

both Calatravas (6119G & 6007G) and the World Time (5130P) seem to me to be the more appropriate for your collection. As you say it yourself, you don't need another chrono or calendar and would be happy to take some money back. And if I try to read be...

And what you’ve said, I’d suggest buying a 5235. The Worldtime will have the same bad guy issue as the AP IMO.

Size is always a matter of personal preference. For my 17,5 cm wrist the 37mm of the 5110P feels just perfect. I recently checked a 5130R which imho was a bit too big for me. Maybe due to the long lugs.
