Because even moderators need to eat - an evolution of the kebab

Some Purists expressed concerns that my new Montblanc role would result in me neglecting to post in the Food section of the site. Not so - even though the roles of a moderator are many, a hermit like existence with long fasting periods is luckily not required smile

So I have been going through some food pictures this weekend to see what to post next. And while tartare is one of my favourite fast foods, there is another one. Namely a kebab, which in its many iterations managed to experience a high level of gentrification in Western Europe over the past decade (a bit like what burgers managed, too).

If I think back to my first encounters with the dish, these were in London of the late 1990s and it was everything but refined. Not that the memories are crystal clear - the consumption often happening early in the morning wink

Compared to that, the more modern variety can be quite tasty and it has definitely risen in sophistication and appreciation - in fact it has entered the menus of some very fine Viennese restaurants.

So here some examples for virtual feasting smile The first one is from Turkey proper, where the dish never needed to get elevated - having had a decent standing all along, since better ones have always been part of the portfolio.

Of the shepherd variety, with some bread, yogurt sauce & the obligatory chance to spice it up via a pepper.

The second is Turkish, too but a bit more conventional in terms of presentation.

And finally, the Turks have been responsible for more than a coffee culture and croissants in Vienna, as the picture from one of the main 'fine' city center restaurants below demonstrates. And almost as tasty as in Turkey, too smile

And just because this is PuristSPro, no food post is complete without a wrist shot wink Community watch no less smile

So bon appetite!
