Dry spell is over, my second Rolex purchase in three weeks
Recession is imminent they say (who is they by the way), so after years of the special Rolex edition “For Exhibition Only” that you would see in windows and inside authorised dealers, times have definitely changed. This week I was visiting an AD and lo and behold they had a Seadweller reserved for a client that did not came to buy the watch. If I was interested…? Uhm…yes! I just decided to minimise my collection to a few “grail” pieces and the SD is one of them. So I bought it, have a look..

Yes, same scenario here in my area, visited my AD yesterday and I was informed that people are declining the requested pieces left and right... Eider no money or they’re jumping on the next hype!

Interesting to know what that next hype is….my love for watches has been going on for almost forty years now
Recessions have come and gone, so have watches, but when an opportunity arises to buy a model i really want i go for it, as i did this time. I wonder what 2023 will bring and i sure hope we will be able to enjoy our passion and love for watches furthermor...

It doesn’t seem the “politely decline” response is increasing in frequency, in part because many of those potential buyers know that their gray dealer is basically not showing any bids and so that comfort (or immediate sales channel) is not there.
It sure is! And i think that customers decline mainly because people are expecting a recession and are getting careful with what they spend their money on
I recognize the feeling, but my love for watches keeps that fear in the back of my mind.

For my taste. I love the green dial but the 36 size is something i cannot get used to. And maybe that is why the AD surprised me with the SD because they first offered me a bigger DJ with blue dial but that one had diamonds on it, which is not my taste.

I saw this watch on a handsome young fella a couple years ago and it was a very nice watch. He was also a really built guy, so the watched wasn't too big on him. It was a wedding gift from his wife's family apparently.

And love the gradient dial on that but I kept bumping my watch into stuff, so far that has not happened with the Red SD and I know there is only 1 mm difference…

But better yet, things should be getting better all over the world so you don’t have to move and just get what you want at your nearest AD.
Even the secondary market price on several model are coming down to the point I might just one or two from there. My AD currently would not work on more then 1 watch per year…
Which would be fine 5 years from now but am looking to build the collection a bit faster then that to enjoy it!

My friend who manages the Rolex boutique hasn't spontaneously offered me anything in several years because I hardly buy anything. The other day he offered me a rose gold GMT covered in gems and diamonds. Not quite my style but I appreciated the gesture.
Funny, because it started with them offering me a steel Datejust 41 with blue dial
And diamonds as indices for the hours. But diamonds are not my thing so that's when i asked if they happen to have something more sporty and then they came back with the SD, lucky me…
I guess it is, now i am not going to push my luck
And just enjoy my newly acquired combo!
