Hi, this is my first post concerning my first Rolex, I usually reside over at the Omega forum because thats what I prefer to collect. This watch might help to change my mind, it is a ca. 1961 1.5 mil, Explorer Ref. 1016. I happen to find this in a small upstate town in an equally small jewelry shop the other day when I inquired about vintage watches. I have never seen anything like this and I had been looking for a vintage Rolex but I was looking for a Submariner because I like the stainless sports models and they seemed readily available. The dial is the first thing that struck me and I suspected something was wrong with this because I expected a black dial, it finally dawned on me that it might have faded and maybe a Tropical. I liked it and the price was very resonable so I brought it home and started researching in past posts and the internet. First I would like an opinion as to what extent I should carry a restoration on this watch. The only detail that bothers me is the hands, I don't even like to polish the case unless I reaaly have to, the hands are kind of a mess but I don't want shiney new ones either, maybe a vintage set or refinish this set. Next I would like to address the missing Oyster bracelet, it came on a Speidel twistoflex, I couldn't find a reference# for it and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Jim
