Independents

First timepiece in 2018 arrives...

Actually, this is not entirely accurate, as the watch was ordered as early as 7 months ago.

Georg is the most recent model launched by Dresden-based independent watchmaker Marco Lang (of Lang & Heyne) and, like all other models of the brand, named after a former ruler of Saxony Georg - a highly religious and upright character who grew a beard after the death of his beloved wife Barbara.

The Georg, being rectangular in shape, is not a conventional watch but is equipped with a brand new movement (Caliber VIII). Our group of friends in Hong Kong found the model so appealing that together, we ordered 8 of them, in various metals and customization. So far, four of those pieces were delivered, leaving the remaining lot to be completed by February. We are planning a grand celebration when everybody gets his piece. This is a substantial order considering the watchmaker typically produces around 40 timepieces a year...

Not counting the lugs, the watch is 40 x 32 mm and 9.4 mm in height. It has a slightly curved case which fits the wrist comfortably..

The gorgeous movement has a stop seconds function and 55 hour power reserve.

Note the large eccentric second sub dial in the middle of the dial in sunk enamel. Note also the art deco numerals with blue accents.

I now have four models of the brand - King Albert of Saxony (a chronograph), two Friedrich II (one in rose gold, black dial and one in white gold) and now the Georg. This small contingent appears to be growing by leaps and bounds! smile

Thanks for reading.
