FOOD FOR THOUGHT...re: BNB Concept

I wish to comment on the interesting discussion that suddenly erupted from the BNB report.

If the ancestors of today's watchmakers had been given these contemporary tools such as computers, autocad, CNC machines etc...Do you think that they would have pursued with the exact same tradition or would have ditched some of their obsolete tools and updated themselves with this new technology available to them?

Our kids use computers to learn at school. Today's watchmakers use computers to learn their art. As an accountant, I do not use my obsolete, large, multiple columns green sheets anymore, I use Excel spreadsheets. Accounting is an art not a science. Am I less of an "artist"? I do not think so because I am a lot more creative than I was with my green sheets.

The question is: Do you accept Art as it evolved today or you don't?

Cost wise, I agree that we pay much more than we should. Technology allows to decrease the cost of manufacturing. It is just that the Swiss Brands are spending so much at developping emerging markets (read China, Russia etc...) and have turned into such Marketing Beasts that someone must pay for it. That explains the difference in pricing.

P.S. Super report on BNB. Owning a Concord timepiece, I knew about them because, contrary to some other brands, Concord does not take the credit, it leaves it to BNB.
