Dear enthusiasts,
still trying to unravel the secrets of the new "Ferrari" editions, which will be covered tomorrow (at least to some degree).
Poking around lifted some other interesting insights. Here?s the story:
As mentioned earlier, Girard-Perregaux is currently setting up a special workshop for movement decoration.
Two special pieces have been shown during SIHH 2005, both hand-decorated in a most unusual (and i find very beautiful) way by Marko Makinen, Master Watchmaker at maison GP. You know these watches (the DR Minute Repeater and the ww.tc tourbillon, piece unique) from our earlier coverage, so expect some mighty timepieces ![]()
The even better news is that the new workshop will take care of more affordable pieces than GP?s high-end watches either; i have NO clue what this means, but i?m REALLY looking forward to see some "improved decoration" models!
A truly wild guess of mine is these may cater the enthusiasts of more classic looks; while the sports lines (R&D, Laureato, Sea Hawk, Sea Hawk Pro) are certainly great watches and nice pieces in any aspect, i?m kinda missing a simple, but thorough watch. Well, not really - looking at the 2593 Vintage45 on my wrist ![]()
But then, a classic model with a very finely decorated movement. Please GP, pretty please ![]()
So i believe this is good news and something to look forward to; for a rough timeline, the new department is expected to be set up within the next months. So there?s a chance to see an example within this year.
Greetings from germany,
Peter
