Glashutte Original - how many weeks in the year?

how many weeks in the year?

I bought a Senator Calendar Week in 2011 - a beautiful watch and I love it. This new year, I was looking forward to seeing the week display flip to 1. I've read about the complexity in designing a movement that allows this and I was a bit surprised (okay, disappointed) to find the calendar flip to week 53.

So what am I missing. Why 53? I guess if you were strict, you could say there are 52 weeks and one day in a year, but my watch is showing no sign of flipping weeks from 53 to 1 as we approach day 3 of the new year. I'll wait another week to see the flip, maybe pop a little champagne for good measure, but in the meantime - I'll wonder.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

You bought an horological masterpiece! I love this watch and I asked some information via GO website regarding how the watch manage the 52/53 weeks: GO tell me that the watch indicates always 53W (the movement can't distinguish between years with 52 or 53...
