Glashütte Original

In the flesh, pt. 1: the new Pano XL series

Many were sceptical, when they heard that GO would present a new series of Pano-watches with enlarged cases. Some even feared a design where the window of the panorama date would 'eat' into the minute/hour register ring, as it is the case with another well-known watch that has been increased in size to match the current trend towards larger watches.

However, I am quick to assure you that Glashütte Original mastered that task fabulously. In fact, the new XL-series appears so well designed as if its movements had been planned from the beginning for this case size. The boldly displayed golden Arabian numerals add a modern touch to the otherwise classic dials.

All watches of the XL series have a case diameter of 42mm.

PanoMaticLunar XL, stainless steel, cal. 90-02

Note how the small second was placed smartly into the increased radius of the hour chapter ring. Now, the second hand's axis is located exactly inthe center of the wide chapter, so it does not appear to be too near the hour and minute hands.

Additionally, it should be pointed out that these are the first Pano-watches with luminous hands, so the time can be read in the dark as well.

Marcus
