March 1, Singapore - IWC presented
its SIHH 2013 Ingenieur novelties to the media, followed by an evening
cocktail for the guests of IWC and Mercedes-AMG. The location at AMG
Performance Center on the 3rd level of the Mercedes-Benz Center, was
timely chosen by the local IWC team as it is just being revamped, and
most importantly - the 2013 Ingenieur Collection ties in with the new
partnership with the MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS Formula One team.

Shortly, the media session began.
Mr.
Goris Verburg, ManagingDirector of IWC South East Asia introducing the
Ingenieur Novelties which are grouped in three groups: High-Tech Collection, Performance Collection and the Heritage Collection.
After his presentation, the novelties were unveiled.

and also mentioned IWC’s design engineers took inspiration from Formula
One, in the area of materials used in motorsport like carbon fibre,
ceramic and titanium.
After presentation, the most waited moment of the evening - the touch & feel session ...

Starting with the High-Tech collection featuring Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month ... Ref 379201 - Diameter 46mm with IWC 89802 Calibre in IWC first Titanium Aluminide case. Titanium Aluminide is used in motorsport, and the alloy is lighter than pure Titanium.
The pushers and crown guard is not rubber-coated, and made of zirconium oxide, a type of ceramic material. Drawing parallel in the racing world, which the material is used for brake-discs.
Date & Month sub-dials layered with coated sapphire discs
Calibre 89802, 4Hz. ... with
clearly indicated power reserve on the rotor. Would be preferable if
replaced with other or leave it blank.
Strap - black rubber with textile inlay.
The Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon was not present that evening.

Starting with Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic ... Diameter 46mm ceramic case housing Calibre 80110. Two dial variation for this series - Black or Brown.
Black dial version Ref : 322503. Ceramic case with alternate surfaces, a mix of matte and glossy finishing.
A nice combination with rubber strap with brown calfskin inlay.
Ingenieur Double Chronograph Titanium comes in two versions - silver or black dial. Black dial version - Ref : 386503. Diameter
45mm Titanium casing while the crown and pushers are rubber-coated
while the screw-heads in the bezel are of zirconium oxide.
Split-second ...
Button to re-synchronise the split-second-hand and the chrono-hand.
Solid caseback, but doubt the soft-iron cage is incorporated. Within is automatic Calibre 79420 with 44 hours power reserve.
This is the Ingenieur Dual Time Titanium, Ref 326403. Just this model, in diameter 45mm Titanium case, fitted with Calibre 35720, automatic and power reserve of 42 hours.
Ingenieur Chronograph Racer comes in slate colour or silver dial ... Silver dial version, Ref : 378509. Stainless steel case, diameter 45mm.
This model is launched to commemorate IWC as the official partner of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
This chronograph is with flyback.
The
red "60" on the chapter ring was inspired by the digital display of the
steering wheel of the Mercedes AMG Petronas racing cars.
Solid
caseback with the engraved racing car. Within is self-winding Calibre
89361 with 68 hour power reserve with flyback function and
second-hacking.
This model comes in either rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet.
Moving to the Heritage grouping ... with Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil ...
The
Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil is a tribute to the legendary
historic Mercedes-Benz racing car - Silver Arrow W25 which won many
races between 1934 and 1939. The name was given in a race in 1934,
where the W25 was above the weight limit by roughly 2 KG. To meet the
requirement, the mechanics, scrapped off the white paint, revealing the
base metal - gleaming silvery aluminium.
The circular-grain
decorated dial is similar to the dashboard of the Silver Arrow W25.
This version comes in two versions - silver-plated or brown dial. Ref 378505, silver plated dial version. Stainless steel case, diameter 45mm.
Pushers seem to resemble the accelerator pedals.
Brown dial version, Ref : 378511. Caseback
is solid with engraving of the Silver Arrow racing car. Within is the
automatic Calibre 89361 with 68 hours power reserve, flyback function
and second-hand hacking. Soft-iron cage not likely to be present.
Now,back to the root of Ingenieur. Three historical pieces from IWC Museum were also traveling with the novelties.

I really like the look of the SLS. Ironically, I've never had the opportunity to drive one, but I find the SLS in silver with red interior to be a very desirable car in my book! If I were piloting a silver SLS, I'd try to sport a simple version of the new...
