Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso à Triptyque. A challenge and a Duty.

A picture I found on the net, I don't know woh to credit for, but which is quite nice, featuring the Monster, the Reverso à Triptyque, unveiled in 2006 for the 75th anniversary of the rectangular icon from the Manufacture.

A monster, as the case is 56x38 mm big, and... 18 mm high! Add the fact that the case is in platinum, and you will feel how big and heavy it can be. For most of the human wrists, it is just unwearable.

A pity, as technically speaking, this watch is a challenge: Tourbillon with elllipse isometer escapement, which is quite rare in the modern production, plus a 24 hours hand showing the danger zone ( the zone you have to avoid when you want to set the perpetual calendar, and a power reserve... For the calendar!

The second dial shows a a shy chart, zodiacal calendar, and an equation of time. If I remember well, it also features a sidereal time.

The third dial ( yes, this is the only watch I know with three dials! ), on the carriage, is dedicated to the perpetual calendar.

Physically monstrous, horologically, too.

Now, I an not a big fan of the recto dial due to the fact that the tourbillon, even if it is special, makes a hole in the dial. Sadly, because the two other dials are just a marvel.

Still, a technical challenge reminding us that Jaeger Lecoultre is an exceptional manufacture, which has to keep in mind that they MUST make us dream with pieces like this one.

This is a duty, for us, for them, and for Horology in general.

Best,

Nicolas
