James Bond, stolen art detective….
Hardcore Bond fans are likely familiar, but if you aren’t, this may be a fun bit of trivia….
In 1962’s Dr. No, while held captive in his villainous host’s lair, Bond spots a famous painting (Goya’s Duke of Wellington) that had been stolen in real life in 1961 (recovered in 1965).
Similarly in 2012’s Skyfall, Bond spots Severine fencing Modigliani’s Woman with a Fan, which had actually been stolen in 2010 (and not yet recovered), before the masterpiece winds up in Blofeld’s meteorite lair in 2015’s Spectre, hanging above the bed in the luxury guest room reserved for Madeline Swann….
Cheers to the forever impeccable tastes of Dr. No and Blofeld. Perhaps in the next Bond, he’ll spot a stolen Tiffany Nautilus 🍻
