Our very own Tjeng Jaw created a quiz during the VC fun day Harry writes about below, and I was fortunate enough to win. Tjeng Jaw deserves a prize for his quiz, which was no push over. Even though I scored the most, it wasn't even close to full marks.
VC has apparently entered the gift wrapping business.
Underneath the Maltese cross wrapping, was this drab card board box.
Beneath the brown card board lay magnificent gilt edges...
... and gold embossed leather.
An leather bound catalogue of VC's 250th Anniversary auction.
A special edition complete with closing prices too.
VC's forgotten military heritage, at a cool SFr 350,000.
Inspiration from the past.
After going through this magnificent catalogue, I am struck by two things. Firstly, VC has a long and varied history of consistently making high quality watches, rivalled by only one other brand; I stress the word consistent. This is particularly important today, in an era of marketing that creates instant brands with hard to swallow heritage involving Napoleon, King Arthur and Darth Vader.
Next, and perhaps more importantly, the closing results are strong, which bode well for the future of this brand. Strong, but not ludicrous, excellent value is to be found in Vacheron watches modern and vintage. I hope Vacheron conducts another anniversary auction, a long time from now.
