Seiko

My latest incoming - a Seiko LM Special 5216-8020 - and my Special trilogy on Seiko Saturday

I have a soft spot for Seiko Specials and have been quite happy recently learning that there are many more than i initially anticipated.

So while it all started with the modern Grand Seiko SBGH035 Special Hi-Beat, I subsequently managed to add the King Seiko 5245-6000 Special Hi-Beat from the early 1970s (COSC chronometer certified no less) with its linen dial and yesterday got the hattrick with the newest acquisition, an October 1976 (again older than the wearer) Seiko LordMatic 5216-8020 Hi-Beat Special.

The watch has a linen dial like the 5245-6000, the 5216 movement - one of the last Seiko Hi-Beats of The pre-modern era and a Grammar of Design case, more common in Grand Seikos. Fairly modern sized (large for the time) at 37mm x 43mm, too.

In comparison the 5245-6000 is somewhat daintier at 35mm. Both also share a mirrored rehaut, making them quite interesting in the sun.

Finally a recent picture of my favourite GS, the SBGH035. Did not actually grow that much at 37,9mm but certainly feels very different. And I love the wavy dial just as much as the first time I have seen it 👌🏻

Have a great weekend!
