My Perspective.....
I thought it might be appropriate to mention a couple of things about myself to give the readers a better idea as to why I am posting here and what I hope to learn from this knowledgeable audience.
Firstly, a recent visit to my jeweler proved both disappointing and enlightening, as while this person was working on my watch, he allowed me to have a look inside and pointed out the fact that most of what was in there was electronic, with lots of plastic and powered by a small battery. What I had thought was a pretty nice looking ladies dress watch (yes gentlemen, I am a female) struck me as a bit deceitful, if not simply a lie. Upon being shown the mechanical internal parts of several other wristwatches he was working on, I was frankly amazed at the obvious difference in quality.
This experience has sparked an interested in learning more about wristwatches, but frankly, with the thousands and thousands of different models and brands on the market, many proclaiming to be among the "finest" or "best", I have found the whole experience rather daunting. Hence my posts here.
I respect quality in many things and despise deceit and pretense. I love fine (but simple) jewelry and clothing, French culture, Bauhaus and Italian design, and even drive a classic German automobile. So, what I believe I am looking for is, as mentioned, a fine, honestly made wristwatch that has more to do with quality than pretense, price or status. It must be visually beautiful, understated and elegant.
Any serious suggestions?

Think about it this way. If you want quality, the watch should be made entirely by one company, not have the parts manufactured in one part of the world, then assembled somewhere else, and this same company should be a watch company, ONLY! I am sure Rolex...
