Unknowingly, this was my first step into non-eta watches. Over ten years ago, I had a handful of Breitlings, but thought this Omega was just awesome looking. Well out of my price range, I was on the hunt for preowned (only slightly out of my price range). I was also determined to buy it to mark the birth of our first child. After months of searching, and a due date rapidly approaching, I was empty handed.
Then, coming home late after a night at the pub with the boys, I found a listing, with a very low opening bid, no other bidders, and only hours remaining. I put in a bid and went to bed. I awoke to a paypal invoice and a confirming email that I had purchased a watch.
Now, many years later, I am more aware of such things. This Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow GMT is a rather "unspeedy" Speedy. For starters, it's automatic compared to the classic "moon watch Speedmaster. Also, that's an Omega 3603 automatic movement, which is a co-axial column wheel chronograph based on a Piguet 1285 movement, with rather nice finishing, which is also rather non'speedy. Not to mention, the GMT 24 hour hand and the date, which further departs from the classic Speedmaster that everyon knows and loves. Then, finally, there's the 100m water resistance, which, again, is something not often seen in a Speedmaster.
