New Year's Resolution Kept. Crap iPhone photos shared.
I lost control in 2016; averaging a new watch purchase each month. And not low dollar items either. On New Year's Eve 2017 I resolved no more purchases...until at least June. I made it to July with the purchase of the LF Galet Micro-rotor on the right. I've been offered LFs in the past: they either didn't appeal, or I was not yet ready in the collecting maturation cycle. (Or both.) In fact, I initially turned down this one, until I learned it had the micro-rotor (automatics not being all that prevalent with the Independents) AND a detent escapement. Differing solutions to complex engineering problems is one reason I'm attracted to horology. So many ways to skin the proverbial cat.
The KV on the left was one of my last purchases for 2016 and its detent escapement is what sealed the deal for me. Now I have two examples of this method of incrementally releasing power. A good study in compare and contrast, like those high school essays we had to write all those long years ago.
(I know the pics are awful. Used the iPhone instead of a real camera with a macro lens. I'll get to redoing the photos, eventually. I'll share when I do.)

Both beautiful pieces. Slight correction though, I think the LF doesn't have detent escapement. It's double direct impulse escapement which I don't think is the same thing.

I am not (yet) an expert on escapements, although they interest me particularly. Just like there are many variations on a theme (for example, the Swiss lever), I think we can agree that there are differences in execution rather than kind. Both LF and KV d...
