Rolex sold much more watches and with higher price and higher perceived quality. This would explain why Omega really enhanced their standards and the price of their pieces from the 90s till today, while Rolex is perceiced as having only an evolution in te... 

I guess panic and missing direction where to go is to blame for that. Some of those were actually very bad! The re-vitalization of Omega came with two gentlemen I have had the honor to meet and socialize with at some occasions and whom I hold very high as...

Hans Wilsdorf was a mastermind in that respect, but he's been already dead at this point.

I tried to look up some old pictures I have in my repository from the times when I was participating in lecturing value assessment training for Norwegian watchmakers. And you are right, the military issue (broad arrow, "t-in-a-circle" etc also showed symm... 

. . . just six or seven years ago. I was offered one for a paltry sum. Not in good condition and without bracelet, but the very same 165.024 today would be > $5K. And a bargain at that price. :-(
