Jaeger-LeCoultre

On track...

I have finally fallen for the Amvox 2 Dbs.

Admittedly, it is a dislike of some, because the fact that JLC releases new models while the first Amvox 2 were announced in limited series was experienced as a form of betrayal.

Of course, the mixture of steel (Chrono locking mechanism and crown circumference) / titanium (case and lugs) disturbs me a little ...

But I have always been fascinated by the Amvox 2 chronograph system with its vertical release, patented Jaeger-LeCoultre. When it came out, it was a real innovation for me, not to say a revolution in the world of lap times: No more characteristic pushers. Instead, an ingenious mechanism allowing starting, stopping and resetting by simple pressure on the sapphire crystal of the watch. The fact that a single movement on the crystal is sufficient, makes the use natural for me and avoids being distracted when driving.

And then (Correct me if I write nonsense) there's the caliber 751E with its 65-hour power reserve, complex column wheel and vertical clutch. There is also the adjustment of the balance's inertia by the presence of four screws on its rim ensuring the stability of the adjustment in all conditions. Likewise, the rotor bearing has ceramic balls which have the valuable advantage of requiring no lubrication, which helps to ensure long-term operational reliability. In addition, the whole is assisted by a clever ball system ensuring the pivoting of the assembly composed of the case and the bezel with the lugs of the watch; system activating a series of levers which instantly transmit impulses to "drive" the chronograph. To have seen this mechanism dismantled and then reassembled at the factory, it is impressive: each lever has a miniature stainless steel bearing with 7 balls with a diameter of 0.1 mm. Finally, a selection device completes this construction since, on the side of the case at 9 o'clock, a three-position slider makes it possible to lock all of the watch's controls or only the reset to prevent an involuntary gesture. does not trigger or stop it unexpectedly.

In short, I find that fascinating ...

You will tell me that all this already existed on the first generation of Amvox 2, but with the Dbs, the designers of Jaeger-LeCoultre have played with transparency to endow this version with a mechanical soul in harmony with the automotive world of which it is inspired. The openwork in the center of the dial thus reveals the bridges and mainplate treated in ruthenium color. Transparent, the support bridge of the chronograph counters has a shape that bypasses them. I particularly like this black dial, which uses the famous 270 ° arrangement of the Amvox 1 to recall automotive speedometers. For me it is a coherent continuation of the first model that marked the collaboration of JLC and AM. I also like the luminescent numerals, as well as the 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters on white discs that stand out against the dial that evoke both the dashboard of a car and the paddles on the steering wheel. And then there is the flange which opens between 4 and 8 o'clock and gives an overview of the lever mechanism ensuring the actuation of the chronograph functions, which for me evokes the brake callipers visible behind the rims of the cars.

The only little thing that bothers me a bit, beyond the titanium horns (I'm going to ask JLC if I can get a swap for steel - while still keeping the titanium parts - the story of having a personal Amvox 2 Dbs prepared ;-) - Who dares wins !), is the round release at 6 o'clock which gives way to the speed indication disc, adorned with the winged emblem of Aston Martin.

I just have to wait for his arrival ... in Ferrari (Not the car but the transporter - Funny for a British and Swiss Amvox).

Until then, make way for a few pictures of the beauty, which is of course full set:

Nice evening everyone, mine is already cool and dreamful ...

And thank you Nicolas the devil ... for making me want an Amvox 2 again ! ;-)
