One Hertz...
Folks,
Serendipity... here's a real life definition... so, I was doing my usual thing this long weekend in Hong Kong (a little work, a little shopping, and of course some surfing... of watch sites!)... and I somehow found my way back to the gronefeld one hertz ss and dune versions. The one hertz always had a special place in my horological mind because of the unique expression of a dead-beat seconds complication while still effectively remaining a time-only watch. So cool... and I heard that they were trickling out to collectors which led me to their facebook page! And it turns out the Bart and Tim were in Hong Kong until April 30th. Now, it's well past midnight of the 30th so they were going to return home to the netherlands in less than 24hrs!!! So I thought that I might as well try to contact them to see if I could see the One Hertz IRL... and more importantly if a ss version was still available for sale (as they are limited to 12 pieces). So I send them a note via their website and figure that I'll wake up in the morning and hope to hear back from them. Well, I guess Bart, Tim and I are insomniacs because only a few minutes later... I get a msg that they would be pleased to meet me but also that a ss version may be still available! We quickly fix a time and place to meet in the morning and then I nod off into a restless sleep dreaming of a dead-beat tick tock!
Fast fwd to Saturday and we meet on the patio of local Kowloon hotel... both Bart and Tim are very cool dudes and extremely passionate about their craft. We spend the next couple of hours chatting about their story, their watches, and their time in Hong Kong. They share a few photos of their watches from their time at R&P and then show me an incredibly beautiful coffee table book that describes the One Hertz from it's imagination to it's construction... fabulously done. Now onto their watches... sorry no pics! But
