Chopard

One Lunar One?

 

Dear PuristS

I am seeking your opinion on a desire of mine thinking about a next step.

My collection is small and my personal connection with the traditional watchmaking world is still limited. It all started with the decision-making and waiting time for my Superfast 919 edition, which will always take a special place in my life and never leave me.

Moreover, I'm enjoying the Chopard brand ever since. An impressive family business to me, and some more regular Chopards have found their way into my ownership.
The brand offers a lot from entry models like the Mille Miglia up to high class models of the L.U.C collection. Within this portfolio, there is one model that is haunting me and I wonder if it stops when I would eventually make the step to purchase.

What are your thoughts of the Chopard Lunar One?

I don't like the second. I much prefer the dial of the first and third.

If I had to choose, I would go for the 1st. I prefer arabic hour markers. And 40, 5 mm is a good size. That's a very nice perpetual calendar. Class, elegant, and original. Plus the moonphase is exquisite. Best, Nicolas.

I like the second best (still smaller size but IMHO nicer dial), followed by the third and the first one I like least. All three have an exquisite moonphase and the second or the third I would very much like to add to my collection some day. Keep us poste...

The black and white and the pattern in my eyes makes it dated, rather than timeless. I love the same numerals on the Tech Twist but here do not find them to match with the rest so well... So nothing to do with the case material

My dad has a Lunar one, and that watch has been sent for repairs about 6-7 times in only 3 years due to power reserve failures, dial issues (a marker came off), etc. Reliability issues have been severe enough that I don't think he wants another Chopard wa... 

6-7 is too much

Why do you think the offset rotor might be the cause? I think that also with a central rotor you have got some gears feeding power to the barrel, isn\'t it? Thanks for sharing your input and kind regards, Kolosstt

I seriously like all three. I\'ve been close to buying the arabica more than once as I have seen some attractive deals pre-owned. I\'ve had the current iteration on my wrist at least a half dozen times and dreamed... I know MTF loves the middle iteration.... 

There is lot of rain over here but mud is still not clear. ;)

Dear Jed, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I was long time favourite of the middle iteration. The layout with two Roman numerals is simply extraordinary to me. Also here the dial is well made. Yet, the latest Perpetual Chrono release has reminded of the ...

The Mk.1 models had a different case construction with more mass. The Mk.2 cases were designed during a period of volatile precious metal costs. Even if the diameter is larger, less metal is used. Thus, the feel is different on the wrist. The movement in ... 

Are you suggesting Mk2 is lighter than Mk1?

We see couple of LUC models with a small number of Roman hour markers (1,2 or 3). None of them is as appealing to me as the Lunar One. What made you go for it? - does it get lots of wrist time? What was the criteria to win the PuristS Prize? Kind regards,...
