TimeOut

Oriental Carpets, Bags and Kilims Photos 1-15

Happy Holidays to all and greetings from California.

Some time ago we talked briefly about carpets, and I believe a few photos were shared on TimeOut.
Today we had a brief respite from pouring rains, and the sun is pouring into the windows instead.
I took the opportunity to photograph my rugs - these had to be close-ups, as moving all the furniture (day after Christmas) is NOT advisable.
Most of them are shown twice - from waist height and a foot away.

(please ignore fine white cat hairs...)

Those of you who collect fine leather shoes, slip them off and walk through the rugs with your stocking feet or bare feet.
Imagine the wool and silk on your toes...

I know very little about some of these, so if anyone has a love for these products, please feel free to share or comment.
The majority were purchased through collectors and friends, just as the majority of my watches have been.
A cup of tea, a glass of wine, some wheeling-dealing, and presto - another rug.
A few came from dealers and one from the lady who built our house to go around the rug!

So can I start with the flat weave kilims and storage bags? Here we go:

These are large bags, the size of a duffle bag. We keep our extra blankets and things in them, so they are storage containers, as originally intended.

This one lies flat on the floor in the library - I suppose we shouldn't walk on it ...

Another large camel bag

This coarse weave bag is full of things

As is this one

Back sides coming now

I love this color. No Photoshop here, this is the real tone

This is a small bag, like a large purse or briefcase

This is a flat weaving that hangs above our bed. I remember paying a fair amount for it about 20 years ago, but nothing else about it.

The same thing, a wider shot. This is 6 feet across and about 2-3 feet high, including fringe.

More close-ups (cat hairs too)

Back to where we started, a close shot.

The next file is for the rugs...
