Patek Philippe

Patek finishing quality.

So I recently picked up micro photography again just for fun, and that inevitably led to some watch photography and related discussion

Here is a recent batch of photos:

One point we discussed on a WhatsApp group I recently joined is finishing quality on Patek watches in general.

I am a novice, and wouldn’t claim to be able to determine who is better at overall finishing, this brand or that, but I do believe I can tell if a watch has handmade vs machine assisted finishing.

Before I get into my conclusion, can someone elaborate on the issue of Patek using machine finishing techniques more frequently? I was told by collector friends that Patek now uses it heavily on the new Calatravas.

Or is this not true?

This post is not meant to offend, Patek is my favorite brand, but I am trying to determine if the common perception that Patek are at the epitome of traditional watchmaking as far as corporate brands go is true or not.

And yes I am aware that Lange standards have changed as well.
