Plastic Fantastic - The Prequel

Hi All

A while ago I posted about the emas divers watch - an all plastic divers watch.

Getting wet - well almost!

I was wondering how I could compliment it, and trawling the web one day I came up against what would be a solution.

Not only would it compliment it - but it would also tick two other boxes namely - having an English watch, and having a pocket watch.  Everyone needs a pocket watch - helps you see where we've come from in watch terms.

So here it is the answer to a what would compliment it - A Smiths plastic pocket watch!

Unfortunately I don't have much of an idea when this was produced, but at a guess its late sixties/early seventies.  There are a number of things that you notice about it straight away - firstly that its very light and secondly when its running its rather loud!

The movment

The movment

You can see the movement in all its unadorned glory - I think the finishing probably consisted of putting back on and saying its was finished!  Also from this picture you can see that there are no jewels - which may well explain why its rather loud when its running.

A closer look

No Jewels!

A simple movement - no jewels and its not adjusted in any positions.

Think the next challenge might be to make the paper clock to go with it - unless of course any of you know of any plastic mechanical clocks!

Best Wishes
