You would think that a major camera mfg could eliminate P&S shutter lag if they wanted to... people are always griping about it on internet forums... but then again what don't people gripe about on internet forums. So there must be a reason for shutter lag...
My digital P&S is a lowly Canon IXY Digital 10 (Japan - launched in March 2006) and known as the PowerShot SD1000 DIGITAL ELPH (Americas) or DIGITAL IXUS 70 (Europe, Asia, Oceania). Somewhat past the use by date but it has one very nice feature... Custom Timer, which allows you to set the self timer delay and number of shots... my standard setting is two second delay, three exposures, ISO200, and no flash.
This is a single exposure with no delay...


Both hand held - the same way... the camera selected f2.8 at 1/10 and then f2.8 at 1/13. Full image with no post processing.
