Portugieser! Finally decided on this one!
The iconic Portugieser has kept its DNA for so many years, it's hard to tell which model this is with a quick glance.
FYI, it the latest IW371605. I am really happy with my choice. I knew that I wanted a Portugieser. That was the easy part.
But I could't decide between a previous model or the current one, and between gold or blue hands/indices.
After reading more, I started leaning toward the latest model with in-house movement, exhibition back, and 8-year guarranty.
I then decided "blue" was more subdued, which is one reason it seems to be more popular at the moment.
The blue changes from a near "black" in dim light to a "baby-blue eyes" in bright sunlight.
The silver white dial with those blue accents and guilloche subdials make a perfect marriage in horology in my opinion.
The Portugieser has been an iconic and easily recognizable model for so long, and I understand why. It's the beauty of simplicty, a "wabi sabi" watch!
And that is why it's difficult to decide between a previous model or new one because they look basically the same.
Anyway, IWC seems to be well aware of the Portugieser's iconic DNA. So even with the few modifications in this latest version,
IWC is savvy enough to leave well-enough alone in terms of basic design. Nice, and thanks, IWC.
