Seiko

Says 5 on the dial but is more 6 or 7 on the wrist

Here are some additional pictures of my newest Seiko 5 that I got in January. It usually only gets worn during weekends - the reference to the 6 or 7, rather than 5 in the title wink

One endearing characteristic of the watch is the day wheel, which changes to blue font for the Saturday and red for Sunday, as opposed to black for weekdays. The watch is light, unobtrusive, and does the job with a minimum of fuss. Given that it is worn infrequently and that it also does not come with an enormous power reserve (nor does it live on a winder), it is a real boon that one can have it set - time, date and day - in a heartbeat, with dates and days simply being changed by opposing the direction of crown turning in the date quick set position. Some lasso throwing motion (no hand winding possible) to get it sufficiently wound up and you're in business smile

Here another Saturday, with the first exposure of the watch to snow. Probably the closest it is likely to get to a snowflake before I get a Spring Drive wink Also have to say that the strap is surprisingly comfortable. It has a very wide range of adjustability (with the watch being cheap and cheerful, noone expects owners to hand out more money for a replacement strap than the whole watch cost in the first place) and the material is pleasant enough on the skin that one can easily wear it the whole day. Not tried it out in summer, yet - curious how it will be on hotter days.

My daughter also enjoys listening to the slow 21.600 beat of the movement, especially after the bedtime story and before falling asleep smile And the lume, while not at the intensity to blind passing aircraft at night, is adequate for time reading all night long.

While not a tool watch in the classical sense, it is a frequent companion when chores are to be performed (i.e. weekends). Not only does it blend in with a desert environment, it is perfectly camouflaged when one has to dispose of lots of cardboard, which tends to accumulate in prodigious quantities, somehow. I guess the price of online shopping wink

All in all, a wonderful, honest, unpretentious watch. In terms of smiles and enjoyment per € or $ or whatever your currency may be, it is hard to beat. Actually thinking of getting some for my nephews, to start them off on the mechanical watch journey. Even if it does not work out in the end, the investment is modest enough to make it worth a try smile
