Rolex

Sign of the times.

10 past 10 on a sunny Saturday morning only one thing for it. A shot of a stroll down memory lane. For me it’s always been as much about the people as the watches. This lovely 5513 came from the original owner who I met in a bar in Cardiff we did the deal and then spent a few hours talking watches. When I agreed to buy it I wasn’t aware of the watches history and that the original owner still had all the full set including his original everything and till receipt from 1970’s. He kept his word and sure enough 4 days later this set arrived through the post. We kept in touch for a while after but I fear he may no longer be with us. He was a real character and loved his watch but wanted to do other things with the money. I just hope he managed to as I felt his wrench and assured him I would look after it. I have many stories like this which can turn what would appear to a basic original 5513 into a very important member of my collection. I do seriously feel sorry for the modern Newbie collector who by the way think they invented this hobby of ours that all their experience is these days is when their “trusted “ dealer calls them and offers them just another watch. Such a different experience I can tell you and yet another sign of the times. Those out there of a similar age to me will relate to this tale and no doubt would have many of their own. Happy Weekend
M.
