Food & Wine

Simple and hearty

Had some colleagues over the other day (work, not watch related) and this included a relatively simple, traditional dinner in a Heuriger - the typically Austrian establishment, where most of the food and all of the wine have been produced 'in-house'. This particular one also tends to be one of the more famous Austrian wine producers more generally, so one does not suffer from thirst or hunger wink

As it was too late and all of us too tired for a dessert, it ended up being a two course meal. The starter was boar salami, deer ham & cranberry jam. Definitely more flavourful than plain beef / pork and a nice cold cut platter that I can recommend.

The interior lighting is somewhat dimmer than my iPhone camera really likes but that could not be helped - was too cold on that evening to sit outside (about half an hour earlier yes but when it got dark no longer). For the main I went for fried Blunznradln, basically black pudding cut and fried and complemented that with some Bratkartoffeln (standard side is cabbage but I was not up for that) - which are spectacular in that restaurant - and the horse radish that comes as standard.

While this all sounds heavy, it isn't really that bad. A bottle of in-house Pinot Gris (apparently got the second place on the Austrian Top 100 list of white wines) and it made for a pleasant evening. Bon appetit!
