Horological Meandering

Snow white and the 7 purists. London GTG 8th Dec.

sadly Snow White was unable to attend due to a previous commitment at a school panto, but 7 purists enjoyed a get together in London on the night of Wed the 8th Dec. it was a shame that more were unable to attend due to personal commitments, they were all missed.

firstly Andy and I, went to visit 'The Family Business' to see our good friend Mo at Work. it would be very unfair to Mo and all the artists who work there to call it a Tattoo parlour. it is truly a house of art and artisanal work.

Mo at work. looks just like my dentist smile

Mo's subject of the day was more than happy to let me take photographs of the beautiful work. coincidentally the gentleman is also a watch collector.  its a small world.

one of the nicest surprises of the GTG was the fact that Emilio (EJ) flew all the way from Spain just to meet up with old friends and meet new ones.

We met up just before 7pm in the bar of the 'hotel' Andy and i were staying in.

the storm before the calm. they had a promotion on a popular bottled beer so as you can see we took full advantage smile

i think this is my only pic of Emilio, all the way from spain just to see the top of his head. Ant also attended. he is a busy man so post very infrequently, but is an active viewing member. it was great to meet him as he has an excellent sense of humour and a lot of horological knowledge. i'd be pleased to have another meal with him at any time. it does show you can be a true purist without spending hours on the keyboard. he bought with him 2 superb watches, 1 of which stopped as soon as Mo touched it!

'who broke my watch??'

'what me??, i didnt do anything' smile

we went on too a fabulous Italian restaurant. i have no idea where it was so i'll ask Mo to clarify. it didnt matter that snow white failed to materialise as the owner was a stunningly beautiful italian maiden. her boyfriend is a fine wine importer, all of which were available at the restaurant. i think this is the only time i've been pleased that such a beautiful woman is taken smile

from left to right you can see Emilio's arm, Mo, Andy, Goetz who's id i forget, Ant and the back of Greg's head (live with it, i've seen the front view and my pic is his best side smile   he is a real laugh so knows i'm only joking......i hope).

while i could still concentrate i took some shots of the anti pasti, but the wine was so stunning, like nectar of the gods so i forgot to take pics of the main courses. i had a halibut steak cooked to absolute perfection.

i also managed a few watch pics. this was the full monty. 7 people, 12 watches.

Mo's Debethune is just sublime and i got to try it on. his original pics, despite being superb still dont show how stunning the dial is in the flesh. you'd have to go a long long way to find a better dial in my opinion.

it was a great night meeting old and new friends to talk, eat, drink fine wine and of course there were some watches. they are the things that bring us together, but the friendship endures. this little gtg was a prime example of this forum being about more than just the tick and tock of time, it is about the friendship that surpasses occupations, cultures and continents. long may it continue.
