Some food from Portoroz
As Nico has been making lots of advertising for two of our (admittedly not many) seaside resorts, here come some culinary pictures to go with them
A fairly nice seafood / grill restaurant on the promenade first - they do wonderful grilled meats as well as delicious fish and other assorted seafood.
Starting with a simple sepia risotto, one of my absolute favourites. I guess I should have taken the picture first but only got around to it when most has already been devoured
And going straight to the main - a halibut shaped fish (my pescatorian knowledge of English being basic, at best), done in an oven with potatoes and vegetables. 1,4kg live weight for two diners ensured we were not up for any courses in-between or after
So few ingredients necessary for a truly delicious meal, I find
Next up a new Istrian tapas place, where you can get the finer type of 'fast food'. Some beef tartare, branzino tartare, cod pate, local cured meats, sardines with jam (much better than it sounds) and poached and truffled egg
This was followed by some fritto misto, which was a very simple but good choice. Something I could get used to having regularly
Finally, some nettle gnocchi with prawns and vegetables. The nettle taste is an excellent addition and nettles have traditionally been used in our cuisine as a substitute for spinach (and they can be prepared in similar ways).
As the little one was ready for her afternoon nap, the dessert was missing but I'll add a watch picture instead
Bon appetit!
