Something Different!
First of all I would like to say a hello to the forum.
It has been a real pleasure seeing some of the beautiful watches that people post to these forums and it is really great to see how many people appreciate the beauty of Audemars Piguet. I have had the luxury of owning a few models but my "grail" watch is for the first time within my reach, or so I thought......
my first AP experience was in the form of the 15400.... Which I still own with the white face and steel bracket. A beautiful watch and something I still love to wear. Then I got side tracked with what I believed was my "grail" watch. THE ALINGHI.... And what a watch..... I had a look at it at a dealer and it was pretty scruffed up but it was a white logo (according to some "The collector" piece.) sadly no box and no papers......so I settled with the novelty offshore in steel. A beautiful watch. Yet it did not capture that "classic" feeling of the 42mm Offshores..... Then I got a great deal on a 42mm Classic Arabic numbers "blue themes" offshore with blue pushers. Loved it.
Sadly I just could not get used to "just" the rubber of the novelty. I changed the strap to leather. It just did not cut it as a 25k euro watch. So I was always on the edge to get rid of it, and through chance I sold it at a good price for a rose gold chrono with a white face. After all the time of staring at Offshores and the new 41mm and even my trusty "fat lady" GMT 2 coke, it just felt too small and within 24 hours I ran back to the dealer and begged for the novelty back..... SOLD. He gave me back my money and as I walked defeated back home..... There she was..... THE ALINGHI but with the red logo....... But in mint condition....bought it the same day. The alinghi was a stunning watch but at the same time not a daily wear and that rubber strap had to go. Black Asia completed the look but now water became the Alinghis worst enemy.........
Don't worry there is an end in view! Or is there??
On my way to Monaco I had to stop at my dealership of choice; Bucherer St. Moritz. There I fel in love with the 26320 chrono with a white face. (This is also the place where I bought the 15400, and I think that had they had the chrono in stock.... The madness would have ended.) and WOW! What a watch. Recommended. Beautiful.
Long story short I found myself wearing two almost identical (not really because of the complications and the chrono has a "white" face where as the 15400 has a silver face) more than either offshore. 2 weeks later what do I see at my dealer back home? The Leo Messi in Rose gold. As I mentioned before the 42mm offshore and the Alinghi were great but I was sold on the royal oaks.......
Alinghi and the offshore were traded with a little money on my side for an unworn Leo Messi. wow.
These are the pictures I would like to introduce myself with and tell you a little story about my love for AP and say a huge thank you to have the pleasure to find like minded people who just can't get enough AP!
One last thing...... As I mentioned before...... My "ultimate" Grail is in reach. It would cost the Leo messi and the chrono, for the rose gold skeleton "ewig" calendar...... Would you?
Many thanks
F
