The earliest Ferrari watch?
Who knew there were branded automotive watches in 1950? I sure didn't!
I stumbled on a listing in tomorrow's Auctionata auction for a 1950 Zenith Chronograph with Scuderia Ferrari branding. It turns out the story is much cooler than that...
Enzo Ferrari ordered a few batches of branded watches from a number of companies around 1950 to be given to VIP's. This included some Longines and Zenith watches.
This particular watch was given to Ferrari's number 2 driver at the 1950 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. He didn't finish because Ferrari gave his car, mid race, to Ascari, who was leading! But Serafini got a watch and a technical podium out of it. This is the watch...
It's an interesting tie-in between cars and watches, wouldn't you say?
