If the winding becomes so arduous that OP cannot wind it with manual force alone, that hints at either a problem with the watch or a medical one. If, however, it's just annoying...then I fear that's a case of 'buyer beware'.

It's definitely stiffer as you approach the top end of the PR, but it shouldn't require a tool? I had the 2nd gen (not the new long PR) and it was stiff for sure...but not so bad I needed a tool.
