I guess I don’t understand why all 40mm bezels would not be the same. It’s a visual thing, but I could never get over the fat bezels.
I was sure someone at a Boutique told me two or more years ago that all 40mm cases would have this thinner bezel but I guess not.

Not exactly true, there were three watches but we only talked about one. The masterful RQ, in a beautiful combination of rose on rose. The summary of the afternoon might be; if one could actually order and receive one of these watches in a reasonable time...

I Think it is primarily in the Octa line. It’s primarily those that was previously offered in the 38mm or 40 mm options that were given a redesign of the dial so that they are now offered in the 40 and 42 mm options. It makes sense when you think about it...

FP has been designing most watches in 42 hence the thicker bezel
The 40 is considered “secondary” design wise. So naturally it will have a thinner bezel. He told me this a few years ago in regards to the QP. Basically every model with a 42 and 40mm option is optimally designed in 42. Trivia: the first 20 RQs are all in...
That I understand, those were new watches. I’ve heard this reasoning too.
But it seems for older references one could have the same watch with a different 40mm case (fat and skinny bezels). What I’m comparing is cases of the same size, 40mm, but with different thickness of bezel.
The same applies for the older references in 40mm
This is why the ones that came only in one size of 40 (CT, TN, UTC, etc) have thicker bezels. The CS was originally designed as a 40. The 38 came later hence the thinner bezel. The CO’s original design was a 42 as well. That’s why the 40 has a thin bezel....

I love my optimum and I have a small wrist.
No problems with the 40mm Journes for me. The lug to lug measurement is under 48mm which is maximum for my wrist.

I have yet to see this one in person but I did see the Pt version a few weeks ago. It would be a tough choice for me. They are both stunning! Picture of the Pt they had at the boutique. Not for sale though. ...
It looks fine on your wrist.
This particular 40 mm case, as well as the CO case, work fine for you. At least from my perspective. It does matter if you are comfortable with it.

40 mm is certainly not a big watch, it is very sporty looking to me which is how I'd wear it.
