GP Checkerboard Dials
I have been quite fascinated by the square GP Checkerboard dials and have been looking to acquire one for a while. Issues have been that either the dial was repainted, or it was in very poor condition or the price was insane (relatively speaking).
Now I just picked up a very nice sample for next-to-nothing, so no hesitation. Okay, it is the gold-plated version, but it surprisingly works very well with the checkerboard and the sunburst finish. It can go nicely into my "Dandy-watch" theme.
It is all original, crown and even with the buckle. Interestingly, it comes with the edgy buckle usually used in the 70ies but I do think this watch comes from the 60ies. Reference number should be 8004.
There have been many variants of the square checkerboard, even with Gyromatic and in different sizes. This one is quite small, just about 28mm across including the crown. It could even go as a Ladies model, but I'm fairly sure it's originally a men's watch.
Inside is manual caliber 26.
Best,
CC
