I woukld be very embarassed if I had to choose between the 1 and the 3. I think I would go for the 3, for its unique character, and for its awesome dial. But if you're on to offer me this Opera 1... ... In white metal... The dilemma would be really painfu...  

I like a lot this version with the visible bridges. We can easily see how they were adapted to give enough space to the hammers. Fx

They were at their time on top of the most complicated watch ever produced. And they remain in the top. The Hybris Meccanica and some other marvels have appeared since that time, but what incredible piece they are. And I love their apperance, very "simple... 

Yes the Audemars Grande Sonnerie is a fantastic watch, a carillon too by the way with its three hammers. Fx

Thank you so much! You made some excellent points about reasons of underestimated perception of this great Manufacture but for some strange reason this makes GP even more dear to me... it gives touch of Romanticism to GP in my eyes... All the best Sad bec...

Really, I am most impressed by your write-up. You've given us a thorough look into the world of GP striking watches. After reading your article I think Opera 1 or 3 is my favorite. Opera 3 is very, very cool, but I do also like the straightforward approac...

The simple design of the dail is very attractive. I would prefer to see the hammers rather than the roll on the opera 3, and the Opera 2 is very clutered. Pluss the Opera 1 has a tourbillon. I will go with the original this time. Best SamEE

The Opera 1 is the one I prefer... for the same reasons than yours. Fx

GP is one of very few manaufactures who actually did sell the examples that passed the Observatory Chronometer certification, which was far, far, far, tougher hurdle than today's COSC (daily deviation less than +/- 0.75 sec, etc.), when most other brands ...
