Girard Perregaux

The difference between the new and the previous

From the friendly folks at GP Switzerland:

So, the
improvements are numerous, both aesthetically and technically. You surely noticed the time indication which is now centered for an improved readability. The look of the timepiece is also more contemporary with a
redesigned titanium case of 45 mm (48 mm and 46 mm previously), a large dial opening, an increased skeletonization of the mainplate to highlight the shape of the escapement. On the technical side, the architecture and geometry of all the escapement components have been reworked. The new locking lever helps secure the winding lever even better (previously, this winding lever had rubies which were interacting with the escape wheels). The escape wheels now feature silicium teeth in order to transmit their energy effectively to the winding lever and the large disks of the escape wheel provide inertia to the system.
Silicium has also been used extensively to improve the efficiency of the escapement, reduce frictions and contribute to the improved power reserve of minimum 7 days (previously 6 days). Additionally, the mechanism is now self-starting, meaning that the movement restarts automatically when you wind it after it reached the end of the power reserve. All in all, the efficiency of the escapement was greatly improved, which also leads to a last (but not least!) feature, namely a COSC certification!
We never stopped working on this movement since its first commercial launch in 2013 and we hope you are as excited as we are with this new execution of the Constant Escapement
